Meeting Called to order at 5:30 by Brian Yacino, Vice President.
Present: Ken Beausoleil, Chris Nelson, Celeste Nelson, Brian Yacino, Sandy Lanassa, Missy Desrochers, Kim Walker,
David Dalpe, Judy Cournoyer, Jo Ann Chenail, Anne Miller, Stephanie, Sara James, Kathy Kirk
Introductions
Officers reports
No President’s report
No Vice President of promotions report
Treasurer’s Report – 54 members
Main Account $3,935.57
Weekend Warriors $2,250.49
WW Back up $16,399.21
Thanksgiving $803.30
Golf Tournament $17,457.61
Reapplied online to Nonprofit status for Weekend Warriors. There is a back up at the State level
Decisions:
Liability insurance: Covers Golf Tournament, Thanksgiving dinner, Community Day, etc. What account should be
used to pay for this insurance? Membership or Golf Tournament? Third payment is due. Question as to what was
decided in the previous discussion regarding the insurance, but the group could not come to an agreement on
what the decision was.
Discussion raised the issue that if it covers the tournament, it makes sense to use that money to pay for it. The
balance due is: 754.00. Celeste Nelson: motion to pay from tournament. Sara James second. Motion passed.
Turkey Trot: Will TBA support as a Silver Sponsor?
Celeste Nelson motion to approve, Second Judy Cournoyer, Passed unanimously
TEEG: Housing and Homelessness are a big challenge statewide. No shelter beds available, affordable housing
stock is also very limited.
Selectmen’s Report
Tyra Penn reported that there is misinformation in the community regarding the ongoing projects
Sidewalks are underway, paving pushed back to 17 October. This will give the sidewalk company more me to finish
their work. Blain Road project has started. Superior Bakery will soon be on the market and the town is currently
cultivating interest in the site. St Joes is under agreement. The plan for that property will incorporate multifamily
housing. Could be senior housing.

The Town received $242,000 to rehab 65 Main. RFP for the design is out. Walk through next Tuesday.
End of Blain Road: once the entrance is “t’d” off the area adjacent will be landscaped. Eastern Connecticut
Conservation District has a grant for low impact development. Some will be used for the library and the rest will
go into landscaping that area. Native Plants, Rain Garden, etc. Fishing access will be maintained.
Economic Development: reports 1 new business and a request for a car wash next to the Route 12 package store.
Pet Rock Event: this event has lost their venue, we could be available for them for 2023 or 24, the event includes
bands, vendors, pets. It is a well-known event and could be a local boon. Pet adoptions, parade, pet vendors are
also part of the event.

WINY: 3rd Tues of the Month. Remember to sign up.
Golf Tournament: this Friday, crunch time, looks successful, 25 foursomes (19 last year). Have been trying to push
for drawing prizes. People can purchase tickets outside the tournament. $20 for 25 tickets.
Foodie Fest: Planning for 15 trucks but company can only provide 8 now. Thompson Rec chaired the event. This
could become another event for Thompson Business Association in the future. They approached us it happened
last weekend very quickly. They want to do it again next year.

Community Day: Economic Development Commission Picks Business of the year. Need nominations. New this
year – White elephant table. There is a TBA Table so members can join that table. No Balloons. Tyra ordered 1,000
books for the 11th Village Project, they will arrive soon. Kids will sell the books. Need people to mentor the kids in
getting some business skills. Need volunteers to work with these youth. Business Association can be helpful here.
Contractually, teachers can’t work outside of school hours, we need folks to work with kids when the store would
be open.

Celeste Nelson raised the point that communication between town and people needs to be better. Just
advertising on the board isn’t enough. Things get buried on the Town Website. The gazebo booking is not clear
and there have been problems. Gazebo booked and an event gets booked over it, looks like it happens when
things get booked through the selectmen’s office not Rec and then they don’t know. Calendar on Website needs
to be better. It will take all of us working together. Collaborations are better but it doesn’t go town wide. A
discussion was raised about the establishment of a town newspaper, A Miller proposed that the discussion on
communication be moved to the next meeting.

Sandy Lanasa’s name was drawn as October Business of the Month.
Adjourn 7pm

Respectfully submitted,

President’s report:  Dan spoke about the Food Truck Festival on September 10th at Riverside Park from 12-7pm.

Vice President of promotions report:  Jodi was not in attendance

Vice President of membership report:  Brian was not in attendance

Treasurer’s report:  Sandy went over balances and outstanding payments.  Also explained to the new people in attendance the Weekend Warrior program.

TEEG report:  There was no one in attendance from TEEG

Town Selectman report:  Tyra spoke about the sidewalk project starting from Route 200 through Rawson Ave.  The next step would be the Blain Road project.  The Brownfield Grant for the cleanup at the mill is being held up due to leadership complications.  The project at 65 Main Street is still in the works.  A $13,000 grant has been secured to rehab the building.  There is another $245,000 grant that will be part of this project also.  Tyra also explained Litter League.  There are 6 teams so far. Hometown Bank is one of them.  The program will run the months of September, October, and November.  They are hoping for 8 teams total.  The possibility of a TBA team was discussed.

Economic Development report:  The 11th Village project was explained, but unfortunately is still at a standstill.  Waiting for the completion of the rest of the buildings.

WINY Radio report: Dan is signed up to discuss TBA.  One other slot available.  It appeared that Stephanie Pratt was considering.

Weekend Warrior: Bob was not in attendance.  Sandy explained right now is the off season.  The Neundorf’s are still going to the food bank and grabbing the items we need that have a longer shelf life.

Golf Tournament: Chris and Celeste were not present, but I mentioned that we are looking for volunteers for the day of the tournament.  There is still time to play, sponsor or donate a gift basket or gift certificate.

Kyle Kramer, the Chief Executive Officer of Day Kimball Hospital provided details on the merger with Covenant Health.  Covenant has the same values and mission as DKH did when it was first established.  This is a perfect fit.

Dan opened the discussion of vetting new members.  There was a little discussion of what that would look like.  Many pros and cons to discuss.  We do not want to hinder new membership.  This item was pushed forward to discuss further at a later meeting.

We spoke further on growing the membership of TBA.  Dan has drafted a letter and read that out loud.  We will send to area businesses.

There was discussion about the double-sided blue street signs with business names around town.  This would be great for a business with a store front.  It is an EDC program that the approximate cost is $165.

Meeting adjourned at 6:58 pm

Approval of minutes: Motion was made to accept the minutes as presented by Celeste Nelson, second by Kathy Kirk. All voted in favor.

Introductions: Those in attendance introduced themselves and spoke briefly about their businesses.

President’s report: Dan mentioned that the TBA email notification of meetings includes minutes and agendas. He asked all members to bring copies with them, as they don’t always have the documents available at meetings.

Vice President of Promotions report: Jodi discussed the TBA website. The process of adding new members is streamlined. She also mentioned that we are gaining traction through “search” – 30% is referring traffic.

Vice President of Membership report: Brian reported that we are up to 52 members. He spoke about the business expo on June 25. There were very few TBA businesses in attendance. Overall attendance was low. He asked members what they thought was needed, specifically to make the upcoming events (Food Truck September 10 and Community Day October 1) more successful. Celeste spoke about the need for more publicity. Tyra suggested businesses attend summer concerts.

Treasurer’s report: Sandy reported on the balances of TBA bank accounts. The balance in the Weekend Warrior account is higher than normal. Phil felt the funds should be used to support the business association to promote member businesses. Jo-Ann thought using funds to offer events in the community may bring more attention to the businesses. Tyra discussed the possibility of creating an internship program. Sandy suggested creating a committee to discuss possible uses of the funds.

TEEG report: Jo-Ann Chenail reported for Anne Miller. TEEG is preparing for our Back-to-School program. If anyone in attendance is aware of families that need assistance, please direct them to TEEG. The Thompson Lions Club assists with funding for shoes. Each child receives a voucher toward the purchase of school shoes. We are accepting donations of notebooks, pens, pencils, lunch boxes, markers, glue, and binders.

Town Selectman report: Tyra reported. The Route 12 sidewalk project should be complete by the end of September. 65 Main Street will be renovated within 2 years. Tyra is working on a grant from USDA for small businesses programming. Question: Can businesses apply to do work on the project? Answer: It depends on the prevailing wage requirement.

Economic Development report: Brian reported.  There are two new businesses this month. Brian discussed the 65 Main Street project, Richard Blumenthal’s visit, and the sidewalk project. There was a recent budget discussion to use 2021-2022 funds.

WINY Radio Report: There are slots available – one for next Tuesday. Members can go online to schedule a day/time.

Standing committee reports.

September 10 Food Truck Event: The event is self-organized. The company does all the work. We may have to rent porta-johns. Question: What about the restrooms in the park building? Answer: they are currently disconnected for winterization. We as a group need to promote the event to be well attended.

Weekend Warrior: Closed for the summer. Looking for volunteers to join a committee to discuss possible uses of golf tournament proceeds in the future.

Golf Tournament: Chris Nelson gave an update. Doing well with registrations and raffle prizes. Celeste is actively seeking sponsorships. We are in need of more volunteers and items such as gift cards. Donors may promote their businesses with the items. See Chris or Celeste.

TBA Processes: Dan wants to rename “Standard Operating Procedures” and include job descriptions for easier transition of officers.

Discussion – grow membership: We should contact business to tell them about the TBA, perhaps by postcard or general mailing. We have several restaurants in town, but none of them are TBA members.

Meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM

Also in attendance was speaker Josh Ruggiero from Oxford Insurance Company.

Approval of minutes: Motion was made by Brian Yacino, second by Jodi Erickson. All voted in favor.

Intoductions: Those in attendance introduced themselves and gave a 60-second pitch about their businesses. Reporting: Dan Bennett (DB Solutions), Brian Yacino (B-Tech Services and B-clef Music), Jodi Erickson (Your Page Today), Gary Kettle (Herb Farm), Nick Donohue (Donohue Lawn Care), John Szamocki (burner service), Maria Thomas (bankHometown), Tyra Penn (Thompson Town Planner), Missy Desrochers (J&J Construction), Ken Beausoleil (Board of Selectman), Judy and Jim Cournoyer (Arts and Framing and Meadow View Realty).

Vice President of Promotions report: Jodi reminded members that all can post on Facebook (events, business promotions, etc). Members can also schedule a WINY spot through the website. Jodi is tracking data, and we currently have 130-page reviews. She is thinking of creating a form to enter events online and asked what the membership thought. All thought it is a great idea.

Vice President of Membership report: Brian stated we have 38 paid members and reminded everyone that we have a drawing every month to select a business to highlight on the TBA and town websites. Brian also talked about his work with Mike Joyce at the high school. Mike schedules businesses to talk with the students monthly. Businesses are selected based on the students’ interests. The sessions are typically held on a Tuesday or Wednesday at 11:30 AM for one hour. There are 20 – 30 students in attendance.

Treasurer’s report: Sandy was not in attendance. No report available.

TEEG report: Jo-Ann Chenail reported for Anne Miller. TEEG’s annual Have a Heart auction was held on Friday, April 1st, and was our most successful to date. We raised $84,000+. After expenses, we expect to net about $75,000. Thank you to everyone who donated and/or attended. TEEG is now gearing up for Springfest to take place on May 21st from 11 AM to 2 PM at the TEEG building. It’s free to all, and will include fun activities for children (crafts, games, fire trucks, planting). Northeast Opportunities for Wellness, Generations, YMCA, and Eastconn will be onsite.

Town Selectman report: Tyra discussed projects moving forward – 65 Main Street and the mill. The Blain Road foot bridge will be complete, and a ribbon cutting is planned on Earth Day that will include a guided hike and paddle. She encouraged all to attend. The sidewalk project from Rawson Avenue to Route 200 is planned. Tyra also talked about budget season and it appears the EDC budget is on the chopping block. She encouraged everyone to attend the Board of Finance meeting to speak against the cut.

Economic Development report: Brian Yacino reported.  EDC has been involved with the Mill project since 2011. They support the business incubator project. Brian reported that Mike Joyce at the high school has taken over the 11th Village project. There should be 4 units by community day. He is encouraging home business to take advantage of the exposure. Students from the high school could also take advantage of the village but would need supervision. If anyone is interested in supervising the students, reach out to Brian or Mike.

WINY Radio: Missy reported that Chris Nelson and Phil Cannistraci will join her in April, and she reminded everyone that you can sign up online to join her.

Standing committee reports.

Weekend Warrior: No report. Dan talked about inviting the Neundorf’s to the next meeting to talk about the program.

Golf Tournament: Judy Cournoyer gave an update from the last committee meeting.  Everything is moving along. The brochure is complete. They are in need of volunteers and sponsors. The tournament will be on September 16th at the Speedway. Registration at 11:45, shot gun start at 1 PM.

Special Orders:

Insurance: Dan discussed the importance of getting the insurance in place before the May event. We have two quotes, one from Gerardi Insurance and one from Oxford Insurance Company. Both quotes came in at $1,250.00. Dan proposed that half the cost of the insurance come from the golf tournament proceeds, and half from the association’s general funds. Much discussion followed. Ken Beausoleil and Jo-Ann Chenail cautioned that advertising for the tournament specifically states funds are raised for Weekend Warriors. Any other use of the proceeds may be misleading. Brian Yacino suggested that insurance for the one-day event (golf tournament) would cost the same. Dan stated they looked into this previously and the insurance cost for a one-day event runs between $300 and $400.  Given that the one-day cost is approximately one third of the annual cost, Jo-Ann Chenail made a motion to purchase the insurance and use golf tournament proceeds to pay 1/3 of the cost, and the remainder take from general funds. Second by Maria Thomas. When taken to a vote – 2 in favor, 12 against. Motion did not pass. After much discussion, Jim Cournoyer suggested we talk with Chris Nelson (golf Chair) about using golf proceeds to pay for a portion of the insurance. A motion was made by Brian Yacino to purchase the insurance from Gerardi Insurance using general funds, second by Jodi Erickson. 13 voted in favor, 1 against. Motion passed.

Bi-monthly business networking socials: The first event will be on May 11th from 5 to 7 PM at bankHometown. The theme is a cookout, with food provided by G-7 Caterers. It will be held on the same day as bankHometown’s shred day (truck will be in the town hall parking lot). This event replaces the monthly TBA meeting. Dan asked members who are willing to donate door prizes.

June 25th Business expo collaboration with Thompson Rec Department and EDC: The time has changed – it will now be held from 4 to 7:30 PM. Includes food trucks, games, bounce house and activities. The event will roll into the start of summer band concerts at 6:30 PM (Jim Perry and the Ed Sullivans). TBA members can set up at no cost. Non-members will be charged $25.00 that they can use toward TBA dues is they sign up the same day. Information is available on the Rec Department’s website.

11th Village: Trya discussed how the TBA can help with the 11th Village project. It’s been 2 years, and to date we only have 2 sheds. The plan is to increase to 10. The hope is to have 4 by Community Day. Tyra discussed a mentoring program through the school. Businesses can work with students on products like used clothes and bikes (recycling). Tyra is meeting with the Superintendent and Principal. More to come…..

Thompson Rec Litter League: Tyra discussed the competition planned. It will start in mid-May and run through mid-September. Teams will complete in cleaning designated areas in town. First place is $1,500, second place is $500. They are in need of teams and sponsors. Sponsors will be recognized on t-shirts. Sign up on the Rec Department website.

TBA Processes: Dan wants to create documentation to make for any easy transition when new officers take over. He asked the different areas to work on procedures. For example, WINY scheduling, how to enroll new members, the website, and treasurer tasks to name a few.

Putnam Duck Race: Kathy Kirk talked about the duck race to take place in August. If any businesses are interested in selling tickets, let her know.

TBA Culture: No discussion. Time was up.

Secretary: The TBA is need of a secretary.

Numbers of people seeking TEEG’s help is growing.

Website getting more traction this has much to do with our social media.

Minutes were presented and moved to approve by Brian, seconded by Sandy.  Unanimously accepted

Weekend Warrior: 7853.74

There is 803.30 in the Thanksgiving account – Turkeys were only expense. Sherwood’s provided sides free of charge.

We received$40- donations at the event. 60 people attended. In the past over 100

Golf Tournament Account 17, 493.

We presently have 32 Paid members

TEEG Report – We will be meeting with Bob Neundorf, Charlene, and the Thompson Schools to check in on where the Weekend Warrior program is heading.  Will report back at January meeting.

Town Planner – Tyra mentioned 3 projects that we could partner on with the Town:

  1. 11th village
  2. TBA holding events in Riverside Park
  3. 65 Main initiative. The use is still to be determined.

These are micro-economic unions. Would make sense to involve TBA, TEEG and the school. Tyra has time to ideate but not run it. She can build it, but the School, TBA, and TEEG have the connections to run it. Tyra can pull together partners. Thompson has no inventory of store fronts. They were lost a long time ago. It takes decades to rebuild that. The Mill is a 10-year project. The community has a responsibility to keep the tenants in this town instead of taking their money elsewhere. Our businesses tend to be service-related and home operated. Economic development needs to occur from within. Then it will be attractive to others from outside. A great place to live with things that keep dollars within the community.

Economic Development Committee Report: The Committee has filled the roster and has another member as an alternate. Simplify Life Services LLC has registered as a new business this month.

There were no business cancellations

System solutions had a Ribbon Cutting.

Golf Committee: The wish is to keep the Tournament in Thompson. Food issues still to be determined.

Christmas: Sandy asked about the TBA sponsored Family. There doesn’t seem to be an availability at this time. The first year was the best, the second year harder.  ISAH had given a name the last 2 years, but ISAH has given all sponsorships out.  She asked about seniors but that is not a possibility.  Anne suggested maybe a booth at TEEG’s Winter Wonderland

Food Truck Festival:

Need Date: June 25th? – Event 11-2, 2 – musical act, add other vendors? Thompson Rec pays headlining act. Registration through MYREC. This model creates collaboration.

Tyra – Event planning isn’t that hard. What is the offer? What will make people stop? Recommend if you are having group booths that you surround yourself with things that draw people. Popular events. They will want to know you will have a lot of people they will want to know what will drive foot traffic.

Set June 25th as the tentative date. Theme to be determined.

Business networking – We are looking at a “Business After Hours” type of event. Sandy will talk to Maria and Amy.

Culture of TBA – We need ideas to create a good culture around the organization so people would like to become members and take on administrative rolls. Not only join but be active.

Insurance: do we need it for the group? As related to the golf tournament. In general? Chris will look at rates and requirements.

Winner of the featured business: Sandy Lanassa

is looking for members to join her committee. Create and share ideas, suggestions, posts, blogs for
the website and Facebook. Presently she is the only one taking care of these items and would like
back-up in the event she is unavailable.

Treasurer’s report: Sandy was not in attendance. Dan gave the report. Account balances include:
Main operating account $3,784, Weekend Warrior $9,571, Thanksgiving $1,141, and Golf
tournament $17,430. We welcomed three new members this month: Simply Soaps, Wilsonville
Herb Farm, and the Thompson Board of Education. We now have 32 paid members. Dan also
reported that the TBA is now an LLC. Sandy completed the required paperwork to make the change.

TEEG report: Jo-Ann C. reported for Anne Miller. The months of November and December are busy
with holiday programs – Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please refer any families that may need
assistance to TEEG. We are accepting donations for both programs.

Town Selectman report: no report, Ken B had to leave the meeting early.

Economic Development report: Brian Y. reported that there are 3 new businesses in town: Sutter
Specialists LLC on Wilsonville Road, Abby’s Quiet Corner Gift Shed on Chase Road, and Piccolo
Pomodoro (restaurant) on Thompson Road. The NE Connecticut Chamber of Commerce held a
ribbon cutting at Abby’s on November 5th. The EDC is working on website changes, and there is talk
of monthly car cruises/food vendors next year. More to come.
Standing committee reports.

Weekend Warrior: Charlene was not in attendance. Dan reported that there is a meeting planned
in the next week or so. More to come.

Thanksgiving: Charlene is looking for assistance on Thanksgiving eve. If you can help, please call
Charlene at 860-942-4758.

Golf Tournament: Chris gave an update. The issue with the meal has been resolved. The price per
plate was lowered by $9.00 to $27.00. The committee is beginning to look to next year. They want
to keep the tournament in Thompson however, the food vendor may continue to be an obstacle.

WINY Radio: Chris Nelson and Rhonda Rooney Insurance are scheduled for the next WINY spot.

Reminder: there is an online form on the website to sign up.

Amendments to by-laws: Dan asked if everyone had a chance to review the proposed changes to
the by-laws. Changes include lower membership dues and a definition of an associate member.
Gary K. mentioned that the reduced membership fees for an individual with two or more businesses
was not included in the revision. Dan said that was an oversight and would get it corrected. He will
make the change and send an updated copy. Jo-Ann C asked if the proposed changes could be
highlighted so that it will be easier for members to review.

Annual TBA festival/food truck event: Dan is looking into the feasibility of offering this event. He
spoke with New England Food Trucks and was surprised to learn how much it would cost the TBA to
host an event. He would like volunteers to join a committee to pursue the idea. More information is
needed to move forward. This investigation brought forward the need to have liability insurance in
place for the TBA. Dan is getting quotes and will bring the information to the next membership
meeting.

Bi-monthly business networking socials: Dan hopes to offer socials to members, similar to the
Chamber of Commerce business after hours. He asked that if any member is interested in hosting
one, to let him know. He wants the TBA to cover the cost.

TBA Culture: Dan wants the TBA to be there to help members. He reviewed a list of benefits to all
members. He asked that if members would like anything more from the TBA to share their ideas.

Meeting adjourned at 6:51 PM

Thompson Business Association Meeting Minutes

September 8th 2021

Meeting called to order at 5:27 PM.

Attendees introduced themselves.

Treasurer report

Secretary minutes – no questions.

Economic Development Commission –  Nothing to report as there was a community meeting to discuss ARPA funds.  No new businesses this month.

Board of Selectmen – ARPA Funding 155,000 for matching funds.  1.4 million for public safety building / town garage – emergency management. All projects proposed had value.  Community and fire departments needed money.  Depending on what happens with Community Fire. There will be a vote.  Come out and vote your preference.  Meetings are posted on the town website.  There are comments there as well.

Funds for the FD are private, but they serve the town.  Floor was not built to support the weight of today’s trucks. Community represents 50% of the town’s population.  All departments have mutual aid.  This is how we work together the job done.

License for the ambulance lives with community – moving there may be an issue.  A resident trooper would be nice, but affordability is an issue.  ARPA funds were supposed to help businesses and residents

Fuel could be an issue this year for seniors and residents, but the public hearing did not support this.  Youth and the pandemic are an issue.  Joe Courtney had a conversation today with the fire station.

Joe Courtney came to TEEG today.  We are focused on the youth in our community.  Talked about the new SWAP model in community markets.  Also talked about supporting seniors.

TVCCA has reopened.  Town supports home delivery of meals to seniors.

Community Day

We have community day on October 2nd.  Fairy Fest, Maker’s Fair have been successful.  TBA table – our sign will be on the fence.  Businesses can purchase and hang their own sign.  One time set up fee and they will set up for less after that.

EDC  reported that Community Day.  Working on layout.  Retail won’t be mixed with the main area with the current plan.  Discussion to continue.  From the gazebo down is dirty.  The area needs to be cleaned.  There is a lack of receptacles for garbage there.

TBA Table needs to be manned that day.  12-4.  Nelsons 12-2, Sandy and Dan 2-4.  Sandy and Dan will help with set up and removal.

Tournament – ready to go.  Would like to start serving families on Oct 1.  School deadline for names is September 15.  Friday deadline for Tee sponsors.  Thanksgiving Day – at the fire department.  Jill St Cyr will bring a smoker to cook 10 turkeys at a time.  Church will do apple crisp.  We can move to pick up/delivery if covid returns.  Signs will be distributed.  Business of the year will be chosen at the EDC meeting next week.  Still time to nominate.

Christmas – Keep Christmas family on your radar.

Business of the Month winner: Meadow View Arts and Framing.

Next meeting: October 13th OFT 5:30

Round table – Mission Statement
Mission: (Listed as purpose in TBA By-Laws)
“The purpose of the Thompson Business Association is to promote and Publicize the Thompson Business Association members as a whole. This purpose is to be achieved by unified advertising, public relations, and promotion campaigns to encourage the growth and success of all member businesses in Thompson.”

Discussion: Is the Mission being achieved?
We had a Business Expo one year and the next it was a weather issue.  The Golf Tournament has been successful, but the Expo is more supportive of the mission.  There is a need to recruit youth and to educate and find summer help.
Could the expo be held at the school?  We had it at the Knights  of Columbus so we could include food.  Perhaps the 11th Village.  Maybe with a concert.  Partner with the Maker’s Fair.  There were 4000 people at the Maker’s Fair.  This would create exposure.  Community day is another opportunity for businesses to set up.  Discussion of TBA tent  and business map.
Ken B thought that incorporating businesses into Maker’s Fair might be the bigger draw.  Sandy will call Chase for a quote on a map and get an updated banner price.  We would need to rent a large tent to everyone under the tent.  All who want to participate share the cost of the tent.  Community Day is October 2nd .  Makers Fair is May2, 2022.
Dan B volunteered to head the Maker’s Fair Committee and will contact Tyra Penn.
It was noted that consistency and attendance is important.  Having someone from the Selectmen’s Office is also important.

Selectmen’s Development Report
Loss of Lesley as Recreation Director is hard.  Branding Committee and Economic Development has been very active.  The Mill Project is still a go, but has been put off for a year due to the Pandemic.  Environmental cleanup is still happening.  The purchaser has bought another Mill in the area, so he is clearly invested.  Sidewalks along to Milltown have been approved.  State will pave to Rt 200.  Pipeline on Main St is complete, still needs to extend under the French river.  Superior Bakery was a surprise. 100 or more people were left in the dark.

Updates:
Website and emails are helping to grow the group.  In the Future, the featured “Business of the Month” on the website will be done as a drawing open to all who attend the meeting.

BankHometown and TEEG  are on WINY next Tuesday at 7:30.
There were 3 new businesses present:
TNT Electrical Services Inc.  Southbridge,  2 Years old.  Licensed in Massachusetts and New Hampshire working on Connecticut.  Commercial, industrial and residential.  Service Work and troubleshootiong
Primerica Financial Services: Office in Millbury  Mass.  Helps people to manage their finances.
Jim Thompson from O’Connor Agency a , health life, financial services business.  Recently moved from 20+ years in Dudley to Thomson Road.  Purchased a Southbridge Agency as well.  Specialty is Life Insurance.  Most transactions can be done in-house for Mass Registry vehicles.

The idea of having a committee for helping us grow our business was proposed.  There is an identified need to use this forum to grow our business.  One member remarked that he has not gotten any business through this group yet.
Discussion of forming committees to promote businesses through the entire group.  There is a desire to bring in Business coaches, information on PPP, etc.
More information, not just a networking opportunity. There was a proposal for having a yearly mailer to make people in town aware of who we are.
